“I am delighted to have been asked to provide my blessing for the Tower Appeal for St Michael’s Teignmouth.

St Michael’s was consecrated by one of my predecessors in 1823. It was an era of great  change in our society, marked by scientific discoveries and parliamentary reforms.

Building a new church then was a reminder that whatever else changed in our world, the sacred should remain at the heart of our lives and our communities.

We need to be pointed, literally and metaphorically, to the fact that all life has a spiritual dimension and be challenged to ask big questions for which science cannot provide the answers.

In our time, those questions have become even sharper, and so our parish churches are daily reminders for us all to look up, to wonder and to seek answers in the love of God shown to us in Jesus Christ.

Whatever you can do to support this appeal will be a gift not just to Teignmouth today but also to future generations. I give the appeal my wholehearted support.”
