Keswick in Devon

Over Forty Years of Ministry

Since 1981 visitors have visited the East Devon seaside town of Sidmouth to join local Christians for five days of stimulating and challenging Bible teaching and ministry from some of the most gifted preachers ministering today. Two meetings a day enjoy an audience of 250 – 300 participants from far and wide across the UK. The most recent Keswick in Devon was held on 3-7 March 2025.

Open the Bible

For various reasons, from August, the Open the Book Team will no longer be affiliated to Open the Book organised by The  Bible Society, and will therefore now be known as Open the Bible. We will continue to go into schools to take assemblies but being independent of Open The Book will allow us to be more creative with our assembly format.

6 May 25: After recent events in Teignmouth we asked the awesome young people at the Popup cafe today @StJamesChurch where they felt safe. So good to see some write ‘church’. We are trying to make a small difference in what can be a really tough time of life for our young people.
A massive THANK YOU to all the volunteers, Sam Lock for organising this, Ben Brown for the music, The Veggy Box - Teignmouth & Dawlish & HITS food bank for the donations. You all came together on Tuesday to make this happen to bless the young people of our town. They were delighted to be greeted by a festival in a churchyard for them with a free BBQ. Amazing times. Well done to all those who are finishing their GCSE's in the coming days.

Donate to your local Church

All our churches depend on the generous support and financial giving of those who are regular or occasional attendees. In these current times all of our eight churches are noticing the drop in income due to the current economic situation. However, the expenses involved in maintaining our buildings, contributing towards the wider team ministry and the work of the Diocese of Exeter continue. Locally and nationally, the Church of England receives no direct state funding so we would be grateful if you would consider and continue your financial giving in this period. There are several different ways you can give but the two most efficient ways of making regular donations are by using the Parish Giving Scheme or by Standing Order from your bank account. Please contact your Treasurer for more information or advice on the best way to making one-off donations at this time.

A Celtic Blessing for the Bereaved

Do not hurry as you walk with grief

It does not help the journey

Walk slowly, pausing often

Do not hurry as you walk with grief

Be not disturbed by memories, that come unbidden

Swiftly forgive and let unspoken words, unfinished conversations
  be resolved in your memories.

Be not disturbed.

Be gentle with the one who walks with grief

It is you, be gentle with yourself

Swiftly forgive, and walk slowly,

Pause often

Be gentle as you walk with grief

Pray for the Holy Land

As violence in the Holy Land escalates with Israel's military operations, and settler violence, against Palestinians in Gaza, the Occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, and Hamas' and Hezbollah's retaliatory attacks on Israel, we pray:

God of peace and justice,
we pray for the people of Israel, Palestine and Lebanon today.
We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons.
We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow, that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them.
We pray for those with power over war or peace, for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions.
